Our Approach
Lectura is a Montessori-based curriculum school with an emphasis on the development of reading in English and Spanish. We provide an environment that encourages children to learn at their own comfortable pace. No pressure is placed on the children, but they are encouraged to do their very best work. Our quality programs and education are offered at an affordable rate as compared to other local Montessori based schools. All learning is nurtured in an environment that celebrates and explores cultural differences.
"Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of the future."
Dr. Maria Montessori
The Montessori Method
The Montessori Method is an educational philosophy based on the observations, pedagogic methods, and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. This method of education focuses on the development of the whole child in all areas of life, and supports the idea that children possess an innate desire to explore, discover, and learn. This is supported best within a social environment that inspires personal development.

Lectura embraces this method and encourages children's tendencies to explore, become independent, and to make decisions. The classroom environment allows opportunities for this to happen. It is prepared with materials that are arranged in sequential order according to specific subject areas (practical life, sensorial, language, math, cultural, geography, life sciences, movement, art, music), by the teacher.
Mission Statement
Lectura’s mission is to provide children with experiences that lay a foundation for reading in English and Spanish through the Montessori framework. We believe that children learn to read naturally and organically when reading is integrated into every facet of the classroom. Our program is designed to allow children to flow through a sequence of Montessori activities that develop letter sound recognition, phonics, and word building that lead to fluent reading.
Children grow at a unique pace and have unique interests and we respect both. Their individual development is observed and documented. Above all, the goal for our children is that they are in an environment that allows them to love to learn.
Kimberly
Our daughter brings home noticeable Montessori habits (like cleaning up after herself without being prompted), and can understand both English and Spanish words (a benefit of the bilingual curriculum).
Most importantly, our daughter is happy and excited to go to school each day - at this age, that's our number one priority. When we arrive to pick her up, she is always a happy camper.

The teachers and caregivers are amazing. I cannot stress their level of dedication that they have to teaching and for caring for small children. They are very patient, attentive and most importantly caring of the little ones, that at this stage is very crucial as part of their development to create positive attachments. My children have become very independent and confidant as they are encouraged to complete tasks at their own pace.

Our son is wrapping up his first school year here. He's 4 and he loves it. Loves his teachers, friends, organic lunches and going to preschool at Lectura in general. He's learning Spanish and is doing well with numbers, letters, singing, dancing, telling stories, you name it.
